Important Announcement from the DVRef Team and the YSFReflector Registry
Posted April 22, 2025 by DG9VH
We are excited to announce that DVRef will be the registry of reference for
YSF Reflectors. Kim Hübel, DG9VH has passed the proverbial baton to DVRef for
all YSFReflector registrations and the providing of the YSFHosts.txt Host Files.
Kim is a significant and longstanding contributor to the digital voice aspect
of the amateur radio hobby, and the DVRef team expresses its gratitude for his
many years of continuing dedicated service and valuable code shared with the
community.
What is Changing?
Effective Sunday June 1, 2025 at 0000 UTC, the maintenance of YSFHosts.txt and
YSF reflector registrations will be discontinued on the YSFReflector Registry
and will commence on DVRef instead. Reflector operators will still be
responsible for adding and managing their reflector listings through the new
DVRef portal.
Why the Change?
This transition aims to:
Take the load off of one person (DG9VH) and transitions the framework/service
to a team.
Empower Reflector Operators: Reflector operators will have direct control over
their listings, ensuring accuracy and timely updates.
Improve Efficiency: A centralized, distributed database will simplify
management and reduce the workload associated with maintaining host files.
Future-Proof the System: This change will provide a more sustainable and
scalable solution for managing reflector listings.
Impact on Users:
This change will affect all developers and users of digital voice applications
and software that rely on YSFHosts.txt hostfiles. After the cutover date, only
reflectors listed on the DVRef portal will be accessible in applications which
use Host Files, such as Pi-Star, WPSD, etc...
Both Pi-Star and WPSD will be using the new DVRef YSF Host Files, and will be
distributing them to the Pi-Star and WPSD instances, vs. the YSFReflector
Registry Host Files.
Users may notice that YSF hosts in the various dropdowns look differently, as
they will be sorted by Reflector ID #.
Call to Action for Reflector Operators:
It is crucial for reflector operators to add their reflectors to the DVRef
portal as soon as possible. Failure to do so will result in their reflectors
becoming unavailable to users of many digital voice applications after the
cutover date of Sunday, June 1, 2025 at 0000 UTC…
How to Participate:
Visit the DVRef portal at https://dvref.com/ and create an account. Follow the
instructions to add your YSF Reflector(s). Ensure your reflector information
is accurate and up-to-date.
Questions and Support:
For any questions or support regarding the DVRef transition, please contact
the DVRef Team by creating an account on the DVRef portal, and entering a
support ticket: https://dvref.com/ticket/new/
We appreciate your cooperation in making this transition smooth and successful.
Note:
This transition does not affect/consist of FCS/YCS reflectors/hosts, nor does
it affect/consist of XLX hosts. Only YSF hosts formerly registered on the
YSFReflector Registry are affected by this transition.
The host-files you can download via this server are provided as a mirror
service for dvrefs.com for a timely legacy support. Please take care to
change your update-scripts over the next weeks to keep clear to have actual
files from actual source. This service of mirroring this files will be stopped
in a few weeks.
